She was a CoverGirl spokeswoman.

The Boston City Council named 10/16/13 Janelle Monae Day because of her artistry and social leadership.

She voiced the role of the veterinarian in Rio 2.

She had her on air film debut in Moonlight in 2016 followed by Hidden Figures. She subsequently highlighted Raye Montague as another hidden figure on Good Morning America with Robin Roberts and Octavia Spencer.

On 4/14/14 she received the Harvard College Women’s Center Award for Achievements in Arts and Media for achievements as an artist, advocate and feminist.

She was named Woman of the Year in 2014 by the Harvard College Black Men’s Forum at the Celebration of Black Women gala.

She runs her independent record label in conjunction with a major label and is one of only a few African American women to do so.

She always wears a tux and says: I bathe in it, I swim in it, and I could be buried in it. A tux is such a standard uniform, it’s so classy and it’s a lifestyle I enjoy. The tux keeps me balanced. I look at myself as a canvas. I don’t want to cloud myself with too many colors or I’ll go crazy. It’s an experiment I’m doing. I think I want to be in the Guinness Book of World Records.

2/22/17 she received the Breakthrough Award at Essence’s Tenth Annual Black Women in Hollywood.
