He embraced Scientology at one time, but later dissociated himself from it.

He was married twice and had one son.

He wrote the lyrics to Moonlighting.

In 2001 he got his start on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He was awarded 7 Grammy Awards and was nominated for 12 more.

On 2/8/17, four days before his death he was hospitalized for exhaustion, canceled the remaining 2017 tour dates and announced his retirement.
